Frequently Asked Questions

The available sizes in our online store are the most common ones. If they don’t meet your needs, we can manufacture a door in the dimensions you require. Please contact us by phone or via the contact form.

An electric heater is necessary for freezer or deep freezer doors (not for refrigeration rooms). It prevents ice formation on the seals and the frame, creates a thermal break, and facilitates easier door opening.

Theoprofil doors are easy to install with basic tools, but some technical knowledge is required. We recommend professional installation, which our specialized team can provide. If you prefer to install it yourself, you can watch our detailed YouTube tutorial videos.

After purchasing a Theoprofil door, we provide full support for instructions or spare parts. We offer a wide range of spare parts in our online store. If you can’t find what you need, please contact us.

To select a cold room door, basic technical knowledge and understanding of your space’s requirements are necessary. If you are unsure, we can guide you to choose the right door for your installation.

Here’s what you need to know when purchasing a cold room door:

1. Whether the door is for a refrigeration or freezer room.
2. The exact dimensions the door must have.
3. The door opening direction (left or right).
4. The thickness of the room’s panel where the frame will be installed.
5. The desired door leaf thickness (depending on refrigeration or freezing and the panel thickness, the corresponding door leaf thickness varies).
6. The door leaf color (the standard color is white – RAL 9002, but it can be made in any RAL color with an extra charge).

Question: What does the Bs2d0 rating mean for panels?

The European directive UNE–EN 13501-1:2007 + A1:2009 defines the fire resistance classification of building materials. The Bs2d0 rating indicates how a material behaves in fire conditions.

Question: What do the letters and numbers Bs2d0 stand for?

The rating is divided into three parts: B / s2 / d0.

  • B: ignitability rating (A1–F from best to worst).
  • s2: smoke emission (s1–s3 from less to more).
  • d0: flaming droplets/particles (d0–d2 from best to worst).

Question: What rating do the commonly sold polyurethane panels have?

They are categorized as Ds3d0. A special product achieves the Bs2d0 rating.

Question: What is the special product?

Polyisocyanurate (PIR) panels, chemically based on polyester.

Question: Are they more expensive?

Yes, about €2.5 / m² more, but they offer higher fire protection.

Question: What are the main differences?

  • Polyurethane (PUR) panels are classified as D (flammable).
  • Polyisocyanurate (PIR) panels are classified as B (98% non-flammable).
  • PUR panels produce a lot of smoke, PIR panels produce less.
  • Both types belong to the top class d0 for flaming droplets.

Question: How do these panels compare with mineral wool panels?

They have similar performance but different thicknesses:

  • 80mm mineral wool ≈ 100mm PIR
  • 100mm mineral wool ≈ 200mm PUR

Question: Will mineral wool panels be phased out?

No, but due to cost and production challenges, they will be used less frequently. They remain necessary in applications requiring 60 minutes fire resistance when PIR panels can’t be thick enough.

Question: Does the Fire Department accept the European directive?

Yes, provided the corresponding certificates are submitted.

The thermal transmittance coefficient of a polyurethane panel is denoted by the letter k.

The formula to calculate the thermal transmittance of a polyurethane panel is: k (W/m² ºC).

Here are typical applications and values:

Application Thickness k (W/m² °C)
Temperature controlled spaces ± 8 °C 80mm 0.24
Cold Rooms 0 °C 100mm 0.19
Cold Rooms -10 °C 120mm 0.16
Cold Rooms -20 °C 140mm 0.14
Cold Rooms -25 °C 160mm 0.12
Cold Rooms -30 °C 180mm 0.11
Cold Rooms -45 °C 200mm 0.10

Question: What panel thickness should I buy?

Choose the thickest panel your budget allows. If you don’t invest in a thicker panel from the start, you’ll pay more every month in electricity due to increased compressor consumption. The appropriate thickness depends on the use: refrigeration, freezing, and whether the room operates in a warm environment (e.g. bakery) or cooler place (e.g. basement).

This is one of the most common questions our customers ask. To clarify things, let’s take it step by step.

Polyurethane panels:

  • Lightweight
  • Very good to excellent thermal insulation
  • Perfect waterproofing
  • Moderate fire resistance
  • Moderate sound insulation (in small thicknesses)
  • Economical price

Polyisocyanurate panels:

  • Lightweight
  • Very good to excellent thermal insulation
  • Perfect waterproofing
  • High fire resistance
  • Moderate sound insulation
  • Fairly economical

From the above, we conclude that each product is designed to meet certain needs. In our opinion, the product that will gain the largest market share over the next five years is the polyisocyanurate panel. It is relatively inexpensive, non-flammable, easy to install due to its low weight. It has the most advantages. This doesn’t mean other panels will stop being produced; it just means this will be the “all-rounder” panel for general use, a role currently held by polyurethane panels in the market.

Differences of second-quality from first-quality panels:
They may show one or more of the following minor deviations:

  • One side is always RAL 9002 (White Gray), while the other side may be a different color.
  • The polyurethane foam may have slightly lower density (e.g., 38kg/m³ instead of 40kg/m³).
  • Possible small scratch or dent (not always and usually on the “colored” side).
  • Potential different shaping on the inner side.
  • Possible sheet metal joint (due to color change during production).

Advantages of second-quality panels:

  • Significantly lower price
  • Fully functional – no water or air leakage
  • Can be painted

Can I paint the colored side?
Yes. They are easily painted with acrylic or textured paint for a uniform result.

Are they always available when I need them?
No. Availability is limited. If you find sizes that suit you, you can reserve them with a 30% deposit for 30 working days.

Why are they hard to find?
Because reduced production at factories (due to economic conditions) also results in fewer second-quality panels.

Can I order second-quality panels in specific sizes/colors?
No. They are not made on demand, as they only come as “production deviations”.

How can I buy second-quality panels?
Contact Theoprofil, specify length and pieces (not m²), and if stock is available, reserve with a 30% deposit for 30 working days.

Will they be easier to find in the future?
Probably not, unless production increases again due to economic recovery.

What are their recommended uses?
For everything: ceilings, side cladding, prefabricated huts, stables, shelters, etc.

What if one side has a different color?
You can paint it, cover it with drywall or two-component plaster, or even natural stone. There are many solutions for excellent aesthetics and significant cost savings.
